Useful Items to Take on a Camping Trip

Camping is a fun way to get outside and enjoy nature; it's also a relatively inexpensive way to go on holiday. When camping there are several things you need to take with you to ensure you have a great experience, there are the basics such as a tent, your clothing and a sleeping bag and then there are other things you might find useful such as a warm blanket and a camping chair. In this article, we take a look at several useful items to take with you on a camping trip.

Camping stove

Although a camping stove isn’t essential unless you’re sleeping in the wilderness, it can be a great addition to your camping kit. A stove, gas and pans will enable you to cook a few basic meals for yourself, friends and family. Having a cup of coffee or tea in the morning is something that many people enjoy; with a camping stove, you can boil the water and make hot drinks for everyone. Other easy things you can cook when camping include beans, soup and anything that comes in a can; you can also make pot noodles and other simple dishes by just adding hot water. If you want to take a cooler pack with you to preserve your food, you can make other more complex dishes such as a full English breakfast or bacon sandwiches.

Battery packs

If you’re camping somewhere without electricity, you’ll find that your phone soon runs out of battery, and you have no way of contacting anyone or using the internet to check on things to do in the local area. A battery pack can be a great way to ensure you always have enough charge to use your phone and other electronic devices during your trip. Make sure you fully charge your battery pack before you set off on your camping trip, and remember to take the right wires with you to charge each of your devices. If you don’t already own a battery pack and plan on going on long camping trips in the summer, it might be worth paying a bit extra for one with solar-powered charging.

Water containers

Tents can get very hot in the sun, and drinking enough water is vital to ensure you stay hydrated and enjoy your camping trip. A large container of water will also make it easier as you won’t need to keep walking back and forth from the water point to collect more water. In addition to a large collapsible water container, you will need a small bottle to carry around with you for easy drinking. 500ml water bottles are perfect for this purpose as they can easily fit in your bag without being too heavy and annoying.

Camping lights

Finding items in your tent in the dark can be a challenge; things are made much easier when you have a camping light. You can buy battery-powered camping lights that attach to the top of your tent and act as a light you can use at night time. In addition to lights inside your tent, you may also want lights outside the tent. These will make it easier to locate your tent and will provide you with lighting for sitting around and socialising in the evening. A string of lights can be connected from your tent to your friend's or family's tent, making a cute set-up where you can all gather to play games and chat in the evening.

First aid kit

Getting a cut or bite when you’re camping is not uncommon; you may need to carry heavy items, and bugs are more prevalent in fields and grassy areas. A small portable first aid kit is a great thing to add to your camping kit. This way, if you do sustain an injury or bite, you can use the things in the kit to treat the issue and prevent infection. Always check the contents of the kit to ensure it has everything you think you’ll need.

When you go camping, there are lots of things you need to take; this article only lists a few of the useful items you might not consider. Always make your own comprehensive list to ensure you don’t forget anything.
