How to Spot Genuine Cashmere Clothing
Cashmere is a very sought-after material that fetches a large price tag; these qualities increase the number of fake cashmere products being sold on the market. People and businesses falsely advertise other materials as cashmere to get consumers to pay more for their products. There are several tips you can use to identify genuine cashmere; use these tips to make sure you don’t end up buying a fake.
Buy from a reputable company
If you want to buy genuine cashmere items of good quality, you should always purchase from a reputable company known for its cashmere products. Buying from a market stall or a company you’ve never heard of will increase your chances of being sold a fake cashmere item. As well as the company's reputation, you should check the reviews and information they have about how the garments are being produced. A genuine cashmere business will be able to tell you about the process of producing the cashmere, and they will have plenty of reviews to back up the quality of the products.
Too cheap to be true
When you’re buying genuine cashmere products, you’re going to be paying a premium for the items. If a website is selling its products much cheaper than other businesses and claiming it's 100% cashmere, this is unlikely to be true. If the item is itchy or rough, these are signs that the item is, in fact, a fake and not made from cashmere.
Read the label
Another way to see if you’re buying 100% cashmere jumpers in the UK or a cashmere blend is to read the label. It should state the materials made to produce the garment; if it's anything other than 100% cashmere, then it's a cashmere blend or another material. If there is no label on the garment that states what the item is made from or if the label doesn’t look in keeping with the clothing, this is a red flag. Someone may have removed the label or replaced it with a fake as part of the scheme to sell the item at a higher price than its worth. You’re best off leaving the shop and looking for a genuine cashmere seller that has proof that the garments are made from 100% cashmere.
Look at the garment quality
Manufacturers that produce 100% cashmere garments will ensure that every element of the clothing is high quality. This includes all of the stitching, any embroidery and any other accessories, such as buttons that have been added on after the garment has been made. If these elements are of low quality, it's very unlikely that the garment will be pure cashmere. Those that purchase pure cashmere items expect the finest quality in every element of the clothing they’re buying. If you notice any pulls, bad-quality finishes or poor stitching, put the garment back, as you may end up paying too much for something that’s not pure cashmere.
